FAQs
Who should be dedicated?
Dedications are for newborn babies through the preschool years. It does not take the place of a “baby baptism.” We believe the Bible teaches that baptism is for those who have personally trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Family Dedication is for those families in the church who want to commit before God and their church that they will raise their child(ren) in a Biblical manner.
What does dedication include?
Parents make a promise to God, in front of the Body of Christ, that they will raise their child according to the Word of God. The pastors, along with the congregation, agree in prayer for the parents and the child. As a church, we applaud their decision to raise the child in the ways of the Lord. The child will receive a Certificate of Dedication.
Why do we dedicate children?
The essence of this practice is found in 1 Samuel chapters 1 and 2, where we see Hannah, who had a deep personal relationship with God, pray and ask that she be given a child on the condition that she would then give the child back to the Lord. We believe this biblical example inspires this valuable tradition that we uphold as a church.
What are the requirements of the parents?
Children learn by example, not only by what we tell them. Parents who do not have a personal relationship with God cannot teach a child the proper way to live a Christian life. This means that at least one of the child’s parents must be born again, and he or she makes the promise to God that the child will be brought up according to God’s Word. This commitment to godly parenting should include regular and active participation within the church.
